Smith & Wesson 1st Model Single Shot Transition RARE 8″ .32 S&W & 10″ .22 LR

$2,500

A factory letter accompanies this very rare 1st Model Single Shot confirming the configuration and detailing its original shipment on March 17, 1904 to the Iver Johnson Sporting Goods Company in Boston Massachusetts. The gun is equipped with the original numbers matching 8″ .32 caliber barrel as well as a second 10″ .22 LR barrel. Of particular note and interest on this Single Shot is the serial number location, which is on the butt of the frame, as well as the frame itself being a 1st Model while lacking the recoil shield typical of the early production guns. This would be a transition 1st Model Single Shot, lacking the recoil shield, though without the scoop flutes found on the 2nd Model Single Shot. Both barrels have the ‘Model of 91’ roll marking and both bores are perfect!

The gun remains in excellent near-mint condition! The original owner acquired a 10″ .22 LR barrel, which was common
during the period as they were sold by S&W to allow for different configurations and ‘combination’ sets. The gun had the 10″ .22 LR barrel installed when it was returned to the factory in April of 1953 to be refinished, bearing the ‘4.53’ and ‘B<>‘ service department markings. The numbers matching 8″ barrel has the original finish showing just a little muzzle wear. the frame and .22 LR barrel are pristine from end to end. Overall an extremely rare 8″ .32 caliber 1st Model Single Shot that is further enhanced with a second barrel.
