The S&W Factory Historian has confirmed this exceedingly rare Model 38 shipped exactly as pictured as part of a twenty five unit special order on August 11, 1961 to the Belknap Hardware Company in Louisville, Kentucky. The gun is equipped with the rare 3” barrel, original bright blue and anodized finish and the numbers matching checkered walnut diamond high-horn magna grips and is complete in the box with the vapor paper, unused cleaning tools and Helpful Hints brochure.
This ultra rare J-frame remains in mint condition from end to end retaining 99% of the original blue and anodized finish showing only a faint cylinder line.
