Smith & Wesson Pre War 38/44 Heavy Duty RARE 4″

$3,750

A factory letter accompanies this extremely rare revolver confirming the configuration and detailing its original shipment on July 18, 1935 to the Sutcliffe Hardware Company in Louisville, Kentucky. This gun was ordered as a single unit for the State of Kentucky Department of Public Safety. Any 4″ Heavy Duty from the pre war period is a supreme prize, there are less than 250 known to exist and far fewer have surfaced. This rare gun is one of two known 4″ examples that left the factory with service grips! The gun has the matching numbered original grips and comes in a correct blue picture box.

The gun retains an impressive amount of the original blue finish with some minor aging on the backstrap and butt commensurate with its law enforcement provenance. A super rare and sought after N-frame that is all numbers matching, including the grips, with a correct box in extremely nice original condition. Overall a wonderful addition to any collection that will take a lifetime to upgrade or improve upon.
